Weerberg
Weerberg is located on a sunny central mountain plateau in the Tux Alps at 900m altitude. In the north the fantastic panorama of the Karwendel mountains and the Rofan can be seen here; the Kellerjoch sits enthroned to the east and to the west in the valley Innsbruck the capital of Tirol can be seen.
Worth going to see in Weerberg is the Mary Immaculate parish church, which can be seem from quite a distance thanks to the size of its two church towers. The ‚Alte Pfarrkirche-St. Peter’, Weerberg’s emblem, is located on a plateau on the outskirts. It can also be seen from quite a distance thanks to its location. Museum Rablhaus beneath the old church is also worth going to see, and provides visitors with an overall view of the 180 year old agricultural culture. Artists also exhibit their pieces here in a variety of areas. On other rare feature: Farm produce from Weerberg can also be purchased in the Rablhaus.
Culture and tradition are well catered for in Weerberg throughout the year with a variety of events. The ‘Herz Jesu’ festival is traditionally celebrated on a Friday in June – with a big procession with colour guards, ‘Trachtenvereinen’ (traditional clothing associations) and music groups. The Weerberg race is known far and wide, and attracts Weerberg Classic Oldtimers to Silberregion Karwendel.
Popular excursions in Weerberg are the two wild romantic suspension bridges and Weidener Hütte, high above Weerberg. It was chosen as one of the most popular lodges in Tirol in 2005. Weerberg also provides countless opportunities for adventure-filled hikes, Nordic Walking tours, mountain tours and mountain bike tours. Winter hikes on the Weerberg are just as exciting. The Gilfert is the most popular mountain for ski tours for many people in Tirol. There are five toboggan runs in Weerberg alone. For families there are shorter runs, for the active among you there are long toboggan runs which have a superb mountain panorama – and places to stop-off for refreshments too.
In winter skiers meet at Schwannerlift in Mitterweerberg and at Hüttegglift in Hausstatt Weerberg. Ski tourers also find superb ski tours all around. The best known ski tour goes up to the 2506 metre high Gilfert – once a year there is also the ski tour race for the Gilfert Trophy.
Detail in passing: the relaxing village of Weerberg, which extends over 14 kilometres, is one of the longest in Austria – and has just 2200 inhabitants!
