Stans is a romantic village at the foot of the Karwendel, ideal for families, those looking for peace and quiet and also those who want to be active during their holiday. Wild romantic rocky mountains, thundering waterfalls, emerald green water and a superb panorama in healthy mountain air provide those heading to the ‘Wolfsklamm’, which starts right in the town centre, with an unforgettable adventure. A hike through the most beautiful gorge in Tirol is an adventure which no visitor should miss out on.

When you have walked through the gorge it’s just a short distance to the monastery of St. Georgenberg, the oldest pilgrimage destination in Tirol. Those plagued with stress and in need of some rest and recuperation can replenish their energy stores here.

Schloss Tratzberg, a gem among the Renaissance castles in Austria, was built in 1500 high above the River Inn between Jenbach and Stans – it is superbly maintained and fully furnished, providing visitors with a fascinating ‘audio guided tour’ (there is a fairytale version for children), which conveys the history of this era in an exciting manner.

Nordic Walking tours, hiking routes and mountain bike paths getting active holidaymakers moving. Excursions by bike, romantic torch-lit hikes, a social game of curling and lots more round off a wonderful holiday.

Stans in winter
This little town is also appealing in winter. There are ski runs with a fun park, superbly prepared pistes and a toboggan run in the centre of the village – and snow is guaranteed thanks to the state-of-the-art snow-making facilities …… and those who haven’t had enough fresh air and snow by day can wedel on the night-time ski run or head off on a romantic toboggan ride on the illuminated toboggan run.

There are lots of cleared winter paths for hikers …. or you could go on a snow-shoe hike.

Along with Nordic walking tours, tobogganing, curling and torch-lit hikes you can go on a romantic coach ride around Stans.
