Hinterriss/Eng

A dreamy holiday in the middle of the Karwendel! Discover the Karwendel mountain range with its mountain peaks, Alpine lodges, huts and valleys. Karwendel Alpine Park has one of the biggest pristine natural landscapes in Central Europe, the most well-known nature conservation area in Tirol and the largest nature park in Austria.

The idyllic town of Hinterriss is situated in the middle of the Karwendel and is part of the district of Vomp, stretching from the banks of the River Inn to the Bavarian border.

Hinterriss, as the only year-round inhabited settlement in the Karwendel, is an insider tip for a relaxing and peaceful holiday – without the stress and hectic pace of everyday life. It is also an ideal starting point for very varied hikes and mountain bike tours.

A new visitor centre was set up in Hinterriss in 2009, which doesn’t just provide information about the surrounding Karwendel nature park, but also gives you the opportunity to experience the natural surroundings with all your senses.

From Hinterriss it is around 15 kilometres to Eng, where the Große Ahornboden at 1200 metres altitude with its 500 year old acorn trees welcomes visitors. The contrast of the gentle acorn valley floor and the craggy rock faces which jut out up to 1400 metres leaves a lasting impression.

Enjoy a hiking holiday, or spend a fantastic time with the family on an Alpine pasture. There is plenty on offer for active holidaymakers and those who enjoy sports in summer and winter alike. An insider tip for all those who want to experience a peaceful holiday far removed from the hectic pace. Enjoy the seclusion and the peace and quiet in the middle of the Karwendel.

Winter hikers can discover the Risstal and its wild, romantic surroundings on a hike. One particular highlight which sets every cross-country fan's heart racing is the 30 km long Karwendel slope which has been awarded the slope seal of approval. The toll road into Eng is blocked off and the Engtal falls into a "winter torpor", there are no more cars heading into the valley. Cross–country skiers get to enjoy the winter landscape to the full. The surroundingsnow-covered mountain backdrop will definitely leave you with an unforgettable impression! In spring time ski tourers really get to enjoy themselves. Tobboganers meet up on the natural toboggan run in Hinterriss.
