Buch

The village is located at 560m altitude in a peaceful setting at the foot of the foothills of the Kellerjoch. With 2400 inhabitants Buch in Tirol is an insider tip for relaxing holidays, far removed from the stress and hectic pace of daily life.

The district of Buch with its five towns, Buch, St. Margarethen, Maurach, Troi and Rotholz was even mentioned in documents relating to pre-historic mining in the Schwaz - Brixlegg area, with relevant mining finds and tools in Obertroi.

Buch experienced the peak in mining’s heyday in the 15th century, when copper and silver were mined in Ringenwechsel. The little miners’ houses and closed-down caves are reminders of this era.

The Rottenburg, to whose ruins a hike takes you past the hand-cut sculptures right up to the highest spruce trees in Tirol, was the economic hub and administrative centre in the Middle Ages for noblemen and counts. In the 13th century St. Notburga spent around 20 years being a maid for the Rottenburg counts. The Notburga path was created to honour St. Notburga. Families and senior citizens really enjoy the hike to the Rottenburg and also to Bucher Waterfall.
