Petruspatrozinium is first mentioned in writing long before the existing church. In the second half of the 13th century a Romanesque church was built. This church was renovated and extended in 1441. In 1715 a new extension (rear chancel section) was required. The first endeavours to restore St. Peter’s date back to the time before the First World War, yet work was only started in 1929. Further measures for restoration and maintenance date back to the 1970, and 1980 to 1987. On 12th July 1987 the solemn consecration of the restored St. Peter’s Church was held by Innsbruck diocesan bishop Reinholf Stecher.

Of the gothic church dating to 1441 there is still a tower with coupled acoustic windows and a pointed roof. After its demolition in 1870 only a yoke with a barrel vault from the Baroque nave was preserved (the remainder was torn down in 1840). The broad transept has cupolas in the centre and lateral chapels which have transverse barrel vaults with curved roof lights. The pilasters, chancel and transept chapels have Rocaille decorations. The frescoes by Imst painter Josef Jais (1716-1763) were restored and added to between 1981 and 1987 by Karlheinz Köll from Seefled. They show the last meal in the chancel. The central ceiling fresco, surrounded by four wrap-around pictures with the Artyrium of the apostles Petrus and Paulus, shows the handing over of the key of heaven to Holy Petrus. The Transfiguration is shown in the entrance area. The fresco above the window on the right-hand side of the chapel shows the marriage of Mary and Joseph. The picture of the Baroque high altar (painting, handing over of the key from Jesus to Petrus, who is kneeling before Christ) was painted in 1784 by Josef Anton Zoller, is flanked by statues of the Saints Sebastian Josef Nepomuk and Florian. After being gilded they are now restored to their former radiance. The successful Volksaltar by Weerberg’s Hans Knapp, which is organically inserted in the church inventory is worthy of mention. He became patron saint of the church in June 1989.
