Schloss Tratzberg – an adventure for the whole family
A visit to Schloss Tratzberg in Tirol's Unterinntal will not just leave adults who have an interest in art history with a lasting impression, it is also an exciting experience for children too. Emperors, knights and other aristocratic previous owners of the Tratzberg guide you “in person” via a fascinating radio play through the originally furnished, over 500 year-old Renaissance castle. Children get to discover the castle and the era of Knights by way of an exciting fairytale guided tour at the same time as their parents are on their guided tour.
An exciting journey into the Middle Ages
Tremendous and at the same time enchanting, this splendid Renaissance castle sits enthroned on the slopes of the Karwendel, on a rocky ridge, between Jenbach and Schwaz. Barely any other seat of nobility has retained so much of the original fabric of the building. Its extensive and original interior furnishings in particular make Schloss Tratzberg worth seeing.
Our guests are accompanied through the castle via an exceptionally entertaining audio guided tour. All over you come across traces of the former inhabitants of the Tratzberg, whether it is in the Habsburger hall with its unique wall painting of the Habsburg family tree, in the Königinzimmer, a fascinating masterpiece of German Renaissance, whose wooden ceiling was joined together without a single nail, and the Rüstkammer with its extensive collection of armaments and hand weapons.
Meanwhile our visitors get acquainted with Emperor Maximilian 1st, Count Fugger and Franz Graf Enzenberg, via the audio tour accompanied by sounds of the fanfare in the opulently decorated Renaissance inner courtyard, sounds of the organ in the castle's chapel, the whirr of the spinning wheels in the ladies' apartments and hunting horns in the hunting room.
This audio guided tout can be listened to in Ger, GB, I, Fr, Dutch, Span, H, and JPN. Groups are accompanied through the castle by a tour guide.
Guided tour for children
In our guided tour which is suitable for children our young guests (4 to 10 years old) are introduced to history in a hands-on and exciting manner.
In this audiovisual guided tour which is also in fairy-tale format, children's attention is drawn in a clever way to the exhibits, which are explained in a sensitive manner which means they look at them with more of an understanding.
This lively tale is accompanied by suitable sounds in the various rooms (fanfares, the clinking of glasses, the clip-clop of horse's hooves, …). Children can also experience the tour at the same time as the adults. (Ger, GB, It, Dutch).
In the castle there are also two little mascots from Tratzberg for little visitors to get to know. Tratzi and Adele hide in the viewing rooms and when children have paid attention they get to take part in a quiz at the end.
Evening guided tour with a knight's table, for groups of more than 30 - from May to September:
In the romantic inner courtyard which is lit up by torchlight historically clad daughters of the lords of the castle and noble gentlemen, await our visitors to take them on an enchanting tour of the castle.
After the evening guided tour the excursion train the „Tratzberg Express“ brings guests to the restaurant „Schlosswirt Tratzberg“, where they are served up a hearty 4-course knight's meal.
'Tratzberg-Express' excursion train
The original excursion train the „Tratzberg-Express“ (60 seats) takes our visitors, depending on the weather, in around 8 minutes in comfort from the car park right up to the castle door.
It is a 20 minute walk to the castle.
