Route outline
From the car park at Gasthof Hausstatt follow the route uphill until you reach a fork in the road. Here, head along the wide forest trail and follow the route markers toward Lafasteralm. Having arrived at Lafasteralm, hike along the Lafasteralm trail to Hochleger. There are cows on the Alpine pastures during the summer months and they characterise the landscape. Upon reaching Hochleger (Alm) follow the marked hiking trail (signposted ‘Gilfert’). The trail goes past the weather cross on a somewhat steeper path, continuing uphill to Gilfert. When you reach the summit cross at 2506 m the exertions of the climb are rewarded with a dreamy panorama of the Karwendel and the Zillertal Alps. You should definitely factor in time for a rest and enjoy the tranquillity on the summit. On the descent keep on the route toward Nonsalm – please look out for the signposts! Follow Nonsweg down into the valley, back to the car park at Hausstatt. Before the return leg you can enjoy a cosy stop-off at Gasthof Hausstatt and just below here in Jausenstation Steiner and treat yourself to some Tirol delicacies - just reward for your exertions during the hike.
Special features: Dreamy mountain backdrop with views to the Karwendel and the Zillertal Alps. Impressive summit cross on the Gilfert!
