Route outline
Starting point is in Stans at the car park at Laurentius Church – of the two churches in Stans this is the white/yellow one in the eastern part of Stans. The route is well signposted from the car park; please follow the route markers to St. Georgenberg. A short section is on tarmac initially to the turn-off for Maria Tax/St. Georgenberg. From here the actual crossroads begin on a leisurely, and for the most part only slightly ascending, forest trail.
From the St. Georgenberg/Heuberg/Stanserjoch crossroads, the well signposted route goes to Stanser Joch. Head up either on the leisurely forest trail or on the in part steep rising shortcuts provided by the hiking path.
Upon arriving at the summit cross you’ll have earned the fantastic view across the valley, the main ridge of the Alps and Achensee situated in the north. For the return journey you can either take the same route or head via Ochsenkar and the non-managed Ochsenkaralm (in the map this alternative is marked with a ‘dotted’ line) down to St. Georgenberg (stop-off available there) and through Wolfsklamm.
Please take a small snack and a drink with you since there are no places to stop-off en route – only on the alternative route!
Stop-off in Stans in the valley: Landgasthof Brandstetterhof, Landgasthof Marschall and Restaurant Steiner.
Special features: dreamy view to the main ridge in the Alps with the glacier and Achensee to the north.
