Route outline

You can park your car at Buch local authority offices in the district of Margarethen. From here the route heads towards Raffau to Raffau chapel. A path which is laid out in serpentine bends continues to the hamlet of Troi. From Troi there is a superb panorama view into the valley, across to Schloss Tratzberg and to the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges. The road which heads to Maurach takes you back to the starting point in St. Margarethen.

Variant 1: From the hamlet of Troi continue hiking on the road to Obertroi and then on via Gallzein to Buch and back to the starting point in St. Margarethen. Opportunities to stop-off either at Gasthaus Gredler in Gallzein or at Gasthof Bucherwirt in Buch. Duration of this variant: 4 hours.

Variant 2: Only for experts who have a very good level of fitness! From the hamlet of Troi the road goes along to Obertroi. You then continue via a forest road, which passes abandoned old mines and waste heaps of Schwaz’s mining area to Melkhütte. From Melkhütte you continue to Lackenhütte and Ortnerkapelle (1735 metres). Here there is a huge viewing point right up to Achensee. You can either go back via the same route or head via Radaun Alpe and Öxltal to Rotholz and the starting point in St. Margarethen. Unfortunately there is no opportunity to stop-off during this variant. Duration of this variant: 7 hours.

Special feature: Hike in the foothills of the Tuxer Voralps with views to the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges.
