Route outline
This short route which has plenty to offer was created by pioneers in Schwaz. Wide forest paths, narrow, steep paths at the waterfall and a pasture with small animals provides a hike which is family-friendly and full of adventure. However, the route via the pioneer path is very narrow and steep, so it is only suitable for older children.
Route: Start at Gasthof Klausen on the main road in Pill heading southwards to Pillbach to the ‘Mausawiesl’. This welcoming meadow is home to a small animal park in the summer, where there are goats, sheep, hares and chickens. Continue through the valley on a narrow path and you are then soon right in front of Piller
Waterfall. The water roars over the rocks into the valley; right next to the waterfall you climb up on the left-hand side in serpentine bends which head steeply up to the crest of the waterfall. Don’t climb over the fence there, go past it and follow the path downhill until you are at the streambed for Pillbach again. Cross the bridge made by the pioneers and climb the levels up to the Grafenwald. There, the forest trail heads back into the village again to the church and to the starting point at Gasthof Klausen. Stop-off at Gasthof Klausen or in Michlkeller (Hotel Plankenhof).
Special features: Romantic stream hike, in the narrow Pillertal, with the waterfall being the highlight.
