Route outline

The Große Ahornboden at the end of the toll road into Rissbachtal is a botanical rarity at 1200 metres altitude. On an area covering 240 hectares, on the meadows which are surrounded by jagged mountain profiles, there are more than 2000 acorn trees. The oldest of them have up to 600 years of history in their gnarled branches.

This popular excursion destination is the starting point for many hikes and summit tours. An all-round inspiring mountain experience, a walk in Eng which is suitable for families. More flat than uphill, the path winds its way along a crystal –clear stream, into a colossal amphitheatre. In the green basin beneath the thousand metre high cliff faces between Spritzkar- and Dreizinkenspitze there is an area to enjoy a longer rest, and you should definitely enjoy a look around. Young hikers really get their money’s worth too - the head of the valley with the babbling mountain streams and gently sloping meadows of flowers provides a perfect adventure playground.

Route: From the car park you stroll across to Engalmen, the biggest Alpine village in Tirol which has a show cheese dairy and guest house. Continue into the valley floor on a wide trail. After the bridge across Enger Bach the route on the trail and the valley then becomes somewhat narrower. After another river crossing the end point is in the bottom-most floor; you’ve reached Enger Grund.

Special features: a leisurely walk with the huge mountains in the backdrop.
