To the viewing plateau on the Walderalm*
Route
Terfens/Umlberg - Ganalm - Walderalm - Gnadenwald - Forstweg - Terfens/Umlberg
Start and finish point
Car park at Terfens community hall
Route outline
Park your car at the community hall in Terfens. There a little used tarmac road takes you past the pilgrimage chapel Maria Larch, where there is a fountain with water running in a clockwise direction for cyclists who want to fill up their water bottles. Afterwards you continue to the district of Umlberg.
Cows graze in the midst of meadowland on this high Alpine plateau. From there a forest
road continues uphill to the Vomperloch, heading to Ganalm. The route has lots of superb views to the natural monument, the Vomperloch. The view which lies just in front of the Ganalm is particularly idyllic (opportunity to stop-off; visit the old chapel). The forest road continues to Walderalm, and becomes steeper toward the end. After a steep section the route heads out of the forest, and a large Alpine meadow with the giant Karwendel is everything a cyclist could want – the Walderalm (opportunity to stop-off). This is the highest point of the tour, the view to the Tuxer Alps and the Karwendel mountain range calls for a break. After this it is then across the Hinterhornalm (opportunity to stop-off) on the toll road to Gnadenwald. In Gnadenwald a road heads across a high Alpine plateau back to the starting point.
Characteristics:
As per signposted Route 408, 60% on good forest trails, steady climb through the mountain forest in Vomperloch.
