Route outline
Coming from Terfens you are soon on to the road for Gnadenwald, following
Maria Larch Chapel, where you take a left and head to the town of Eggen. After being in forested areas so far, you get your first glimpses into the distance here.
From here you have a constant companion in the two thousand metre mountains of the Bettelwurf massif, which protrude in a northerly direction and also the rest of the peaks in the Karwendel – being so close to the mountain ranges is want gives this otherwise easy tour its particular charm; lots of lovely photo opportunities are also on offer along the way (way crosses, chapels).
In actual fact you are right in the centre of the Karwendel – purely in geographical terms - since the centre line of the River Inn has always been regarded as a border.
Even in early spring there is barely any snow remaining – its elevated position on the sunny side is what makes this possible. At any rate the village cafe in Terfens provides an opportunity to stop-off and enjoy a rest. Tip: the clockwise running water in the spring at Maria Larch Chapel is purported to have a healing effect. People come here from far and wide to fill up their water bottles.
Characteristics:
Tarmac roads for the most part, sections along the signposted MTB Route 408.
