Route outline
You get to know three peaceful districts of Hochgallzein, Hof and Gattern on this easy mountain bike route – described by a German travel journalist as being a special Tirol idyll through and through.
From Buch keep heading east toward St. Margarethen, you can fill any empty drinks bottles at Valterwirt if you need to before committing yourself to the ascent through Troi heading for Obertroi, which winds through the upper part in a shady forested area. Watch out for oncoming traffic! In Obertroi keep heading west; follow a gravel road downhill to a bridge and after a short intermediate climb the route goes down sharply to Hochgallzein. The descent continues along Gallzein’s rural road through a ditch which has a bridge and another short counter ascent, followed by a short flat section – ideal chance to stop-off for refreshments at Gasthof Gredler in Hof. At 100 metres altitude lower you can call into Café Martina, before following the last part of the descent, via the steep road right back to the starting point in Buch.
Characteristics:
The route is all on tarmac and follows parts of the signposted mountain bike route 414.
