Mountain biking in Tirol

Silberregion Karwendel is a mountain biking region. Ability and fitness are no limits. From a mountain bike tour covering not many metres altitude, right the way through to a day tour covering around 2000 metres altitude – the sky’s the limit! Mountain bikers who prefer to ride on forest trails, bikers on the hunt for cool trails and mountain bikers who have an endurance base and a penchant for tarmacced mountain roads – everyone will find fantastic conditions in this mountain bike network, which covers more than 1000 km. There are more than 42 mountain biking tours in the Karwendel and the Tuxer Voralps to investigate – covering over 40,000 metres altitude.

From being an insider tip for mountain bikers, the towns in Silberregion Karwendel have now become known a brilliant location for a mountain bike holiday. For many mountain bikers the Transalp Challenge, which takes place annually, is the supreme discipline for mountain bike racing across the Alps. The first Transalp Challenge went through Silberregion Karwendel and was developed in conjunction with local mountain bikers. The mountain village of Weerberg, set in the Tuxer Alps, enjoying a dreamy view to the Karwendel, hosted a stage at the time. The Transalp still goes through the region today. Heading via the Karwendel, the Transalp route for mountain bikers heads to Weerberg and continues via Weidener Hütte to the Geisljoch. Thousands of mountain bikers fervently ride this route every year.

Increasing numbers of mountain bikers use the region for a mountain bike holiday spanning several days. They stay in areas of the region where a different mountain bike tour can be tackled every day. Up to an Alpine meadow, tracking the Transalp route, in the Karwendel, in the Tuxer Alps, on a circuit tour, and lots of panorama views. The choice and variety is immense and the Alps provide quality rarely found elsewhere. The superb natural surroundings play the leading role. The impressive Karwendel mountain range with its steep rock faces and the gentle, green Tuxer Alps are not only a dream couple in visual terms, they also have so much more to offer.

One special feature in the Silberregion Karwendel deserves mention – if you come without a bike and still want to trample through the region, well, you can still do so from a bicycle saddle. There are four professional shops and specialist shops where you can get advice and hire the bike to suit you. The official Haibike mountain bike test centre is a highlight, as is the official KTM mountain bike test centre.
Those of you who have not yet sat on a mountain bike and are fascinated by this fantastic sport can learn the techniques in the local mountain bike schools. There are also MTB guides who provide guided tours for groups and for individuals.
