Since 1948 serenades have taken place every summer in the superb gothic cloister of the Franciscan monastery in Schwaz. These concerts are popular with holiday guests and locals alike. On particularly fine evenings the concerts are held in the courtyard of the cloister, imparting a Mediterranean style.
Internationally renowned ensembles and soloists can be heard at the Schwaz serenades. For instance the Hagen Quartet Salzburg, Munich’s string quartet, Michael-Grube Festival Orchestra Madrid, brass soloists from Munich, Bavaria, Pertersen Quartet Leipzig, Les Menestrels Vienna, Concilium musicum Vienna, Salzburg’s Mozart soloists, Schrammeln Philharmonic Vienna, among other performances. Soloists performing include Wolfgang Peinlich (concert master of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), Christian Altenburger (violin), Edgar Gredler (solo cellist with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra), Eberhard Kummer (ballad singer) chamber virtuoso Gerd Zapf (trumpet) among others.
Special thanks goes out to the promoters of the Schwaz Serenades: Schwaz town council, TVB Silberregion Karwendel, the culture department in Tirol provincial government and Sparkasse Schwaz AG, without whom the excellent ensembles would not be able to give performances.
