In the Middle Ages it was silver that made the town of Schwaz and the surrounding towns wealthy. Schwaz developed in the Middle Ages into the second biggest town after Vienna. Among the most popular sights in Tirol is the silver mine in Schwaz, where the Fugger family from Augsburg governed during the Middle Ages. In the new annex artists exhibit their works – as they do in local galleries such as Angerer Gallery, Schusterhaus Gallery and in ‘Galerie am Berg’.
Traditional cuisine is also a part of the culture in Silberregion Karwendel. Many recipes were cooked by our great-grandparents and have been passed down through families to sons and daughters, grandsons and grand-daughters. They have further refined Tirol fare and it is now in keeping with today's eating habits. You can taste this cuisine in the guesthouses and restaurants in Silberregion Karwendel.
